And if you are not replacing these springs because they still work well, make sure there is enough tension on them by turning the bolts that hold them in place (with your hand or with pliers) until it feels like they are tight enough. Reattach each spring drum back onto the track and reattach all panels securely before testing out your garage door repair.

                Once your issues seem to be resolved you can pull down on the top panel of your garage door to check how it is closing without any problems. If everything seems good, move on to step 3.

                 If there are a lot of new scrapes or the garage door still does not open up all the way, there may be further issues. If so, use a long metal bar to loosen up each torsion spring which will allow you to adjust them again. Be sure to adjust both of them equally so your garage door can remain balanced and closed without having an excess of pressure on anyone side.
